Stubborn? Pride? Anger? Foolish? Impulsive? Unpredictable? Greedy? These words are examples or traits inhibited by a stubborn person. But what is a stubborn person? What does he look like? Does he look like this or; what does he usually do in very "important" situations in life? Does he contemplate first before reacting or in a very displeasing manner "erupt" in his decisions because of his emotions? So do u know at least what a stubborn person looks like? None yet, well an example of people who were stubborn, especially in The Iliad by Homer; is the Achaean King, Agamemnon.
King Agamemnon, as seen in the five early books of the Iliad has acted stubbornly and has foolishly acted or decided on wrong decisions making some of the situations of the Achaean forces he leads much difficult than expected. His stubbornness is seen especially in the first book in which King Agamemnon had a quarrel with Achilles resulting in Achilles withdrawal in the war together with his men; the myrmidons.
It all started when Achilles held an assembly of the army regarding the plague that was casted to them by Apollo, the sun god. King Agamemnon showed in this situation that he is easily duped by his emotions and he rather based his actions entirely out of emotions. It is also seen that he was a greedy and that he is not fit to be a king, because of the fact that he moves slow when deciding about the fate of his people during the plague and regarding of the war prizes that he receives. This statement was seen during the quarrel between Achilles and King Agamemnon in which they had to gve up the enemy maidens which were there war prizes. Briseis for Achilles and Chryseis for King Agamemnon to give up tp Chryses the father of Chryseis.
Now that person was in the past, but there are also people in the present who are seen with attitudes like these. and luckily i am one of those people. Well technically i am a stubborn person because of the decisions i take in life. Even if i know the actions i will do will commit me to greater trouble i will still commit it. I can also say that I am alike with King Agamemnon because of the reason between prizes and gifts i receive. I tend to become greedy and let the power run through my head whenever i have power in my hands.
To end this stubbornness, we must always control our emotions and see to it that our emotions do not waver our decisions in life as to so not ruin our own future plans. We must not also keep a sense of pride within ourselves because that is what led to the downfall of King Agamemnon and the leave of Achilles. For the Greeks, pride is everything. It is a principle. So my last advice if you would not want to end up like King Agamemnon or the very most like myself, avoid letting your emotions go into your head and instead have a firm and strong disposition of yourself. Know the situation at hand and control it. Do not be like king Agamemnon who is so attached to material things and is easily wavered by his own emotions.
